The Teltonika RUT906 eSIM is an industrial 4G LTE Cat 4 router designed for reliable connectivity in IoT and OT environments where serial communications, industrial protocols and maximum uptime are required. This router combines mobile connectivity, RS232/RS485, I/Os, GNSS and comprehensive RutOS security and management functionality in one compact device. The RUT906 supports 4G LTE Cat 4 with speeds up to 150 Mbps download / 50 Mbps upload, with fallback to 3G and 2G. For critical connections, the platform offers extensive switching scenarios, including automatic switching at:
- weak signal or network loss
- roaming situations
- data limits or SMS limits
- “network denied” or data connection failure
- SIM idle protection (change periodically to avoid blockages)
Combined with backup WAN and network monitoring (such as ping/wget reboot and periodic reboot), this is a solid foundation for 24/7 deployment.
Serial interfaces for OT/legacy devices
Whereas standard mobile routers primarily provide IP connectivity, the RUT906 stands out with built-in RS232 (DB9) and RS485. This enables direct connection of existing industrial equipment, such as PLCs, meters, controllers and sensors, without external converters.

The RUT906 features multiple digital and analog inputs/outputs (including dry input, galvanically isolated input, analog input with 4-20 mA capability, open collector outputs and relay output). These allow you to link events, alarms or automation logic with connectivity, for example:
